Trip to Southern California

We have been wanting to visit Chad and Sarah for a while, so we extended our family Reunion and stayed in Southern California to play with our College buddies.

Audrey and Spencer caught in the closet serenading each other on the ukulele. Kissing cousins? -I think not!! They just kept making up more and more songs. They were so cute.

Dinosaur heaven... this was our big amusement (mind you Spencer choose the Museum over Sea World and Disney Land) - I think he made a great choice. It was way less expensive and he LOVED every minute of it. This was the coolest place for a 3 year old dinosaur extremism!

Tibbitts Family Reunion...

We went to a reunion that included Jen's Grandparents on her mom's side and all her Aunts, Uncles, and cousins + all thier kids. We met in Hemet, California where we spent our time visiting, swimming at the Jergensens pool, playing at the beach, and enjoying good food and games. There were many laughs shared and also tender moments. We ended with a testimony meeting and took time to remember our Uncle Rod who passed away less than a year ago from cancer. Although not everyone can always attend these reunions this was the first time it did not feel complete. Rod is still on our hearts and their family is in our prayers.

The Tobler family with my Great Uncle Myrl. The boys got to reach into Uncle Myrl's money jar and keep what they could hold. This is a long standing tradition of Uncle Myrl's and it was fun to see all the little grandkids gathered around him. Uncle Myrl throws fake coins and buttons into the jar as well, which are worth a $1. Landon stuck his hand in and only picked out one thing - but it was a fake, so good for him.... he ended up with whole $1.

Happy Birthday Spencer!

We had a day of dinosaurs! Dinosaur pancakes for breakfast, got dressed in dinosaur clothes, 3D dinosaur puzzles, dinosaur chicken nuggets for lunch, we frosted dinosaur cookies, did art with dinosaur stickers, watched Dinotopia and ate Pizza for Dinner, opened presents with lots of dinosaurs, played with the dinosaurs gifts, he even went to bed with new dinosaur pj's and blanket.... are you getting the picture yet?! It was the best dinosaur birthday ever!

Spencer got his cast off on his birthday!! It felt really weird to him and he held his arm still for quite some time, but he was happy to have movement back!

The Official Cast

Waiting for the Doctor to check everything out.... Jen praying for a miracle - I really didn't want to have Spence in a cast for 6 weeks of the summer. I was already disappointed that we would have to cancel his swimming lessons.

Here it is... the handsome blue cast. So far I wasn't in any of the pictures and Nick asked if I was trying to pretend that I had nothing to do with the broken arm. He thought I was trying to distance my self by only taking pictures of the boys - Like it was a guy thing and mommy has nothing to do with broken arms. So here I am...

Funny, but not funny story - I was over at a friend's house for a meeting the morning before his appointment. I brought a movie over for Spencer to watch, but after a while all the little kids wanted to go outside in the backyard and play. He felt really left out, so I told him he could join with the exception that he was not allowed on the trampoline. Three minutes later I see him jumping on the trampoline. The doctor of course warned me about further injury until he had a hard cast on, so I quickly ran out and told him he wasn't allowed to jump, but he could walk around on the grass. Another three minutes go by and I see him trip, land on his arm and scream out. I ran to pick him up, but he wouldn't stop crying. I quickly said good-bye and headed home. I think he was crying more about leaving his friends by this point than the arm, but of course I was still being a protective mother....

All seemed fine, but no kidding, when we met with the doctor he said a simple cast would do the trick for about three weeks unless he had re-injured it since the first x-ray. I mentioned that he fell on it, and he said it probably didn't do anything unless he cried out etc. (Huh - do you think crying for a whole 20 minutes falls into this category?!) Dang - another x-ray. Luckily the 2nd x-ray showed no displacement, thus no surgery and hopefully he will get his cast off on his birthday when we go in on the 23rd.

Broken Arm - What?!

Seriously I was shocked! We were having a very quiet afternoon and then....

Spencer and I had been painting pictures of Dinosaurs and he said he really wanted to watch the Dinosaur movie. It was in the upstairs player, so I don't think he'd seen it in over 2 months. He was super concentrated on watching, but looked a little tired. He probably would have fallen asleep had he not been so intrigued. So he was on the guest bed watching the movie and I was standing next to the bed talking on the phone to my mom and ironing Nick's shirts (it's a once every 2 month occasion, so I was feeling quite accomplished and excited for Nick to get home and see all of his nicely ironed shirts) I was just about finished ironing and I hung up the phone (It was about 4:30 p.m.) Landon woke up in the other room and Spencer went to say hi. When he walked back in he hopped right back up on the bed and laid back to watch the movie. I didn't want to leave him in the room with a hot iron, so I thought I'd finish my last shirt and run get Landon. I turned around and about 20 seconds later I heard him hitting the elliptical machine next to the bed. He hit pretty hard, and landed on his arm. I couldn't see the whole thing from my angle, but I could tell he was hurting. I picked him up and hugged him for a few minutes and then set him on the bed so I could unplug the iron etc. He would not calm down and he was holding his arm super still. The thought came - could he have broken his arm?! - No way (not falling off a bed) After 15 min. I called Nick and asked if it would be obvious if it was broken or... we tried calling Uncle Marc, but no answer, so I called our pediatrician. They thought it might be Nursemaids elbow and told us to bring him to the after hour clinic at 6:30 p.m. By the time Nick got home we could tell it really was not just a bumped elbow and the fact that he wouldn't use it to help get a fruit roll-up into his mouth was an obvious indicator.

When we got to the office the Dr. said she didn't think it was Nursemaids elbow and was pretty sure it was broken. She sent us to the hospital to get an x-ray and return. When we came back she said there was a lot of fluid building up around the elbow and it looked like a break. They couldn't tell where exactly the break was, they had to put a splint on and wrap it all up. She told us to call a Pediatric Orthopedist in the morning to re-look at the x-rays and then cast the arm.

Spencer got a milk shake out of the whole thing, but actually he seemed to enjoy the entire process...

When we went to get the x-rays Spencer thought it was a picture of a dinosaur bone in his arm. He was so excited. He kept asking the tech. if there were dinosaurs in the x-ray room. He held really still while they took pictures and then the tech. let him look at the images. This was like a grand adventure for him. What awesome "Dinosaur" bones in his right arm. The doctor who wrapped his arm was super sweet and played into the dinosaur game. They covered his wrap in dino stickers and then let him look at the images of the bones again. He was so proud of his arm! It was quite cute, but as parents we weren't feeling so thrilled. We felt really bad!!

Back at home playing dinosaurs! He looked like he was doing much better. This morning when he woke up he was a little less excited about the big wrap on his arm and the lack of mobility. Hopefully he does okay with it. We love our cute little cautious guy. For those of you that really know him you know he NEVER does anything dangerous. I thought Landon would be in the Hospital with a broken arm 5 times before Spencer ever was!

Nate is really enjoying his mission so far. He keeps talking about how excited he is to get to Texas and start actually speaking Spanish and teaching real investigators (not the practice investigators at the MTC) I wonder if reality will hit once he's not in the comfort of the MTC and he really does have to speak Spanish and he's not being fed, but he's feeding :o) I'm excited for him. Spencer Loves to Sing!

He loves to sing, but he loves to make up his songs and is quite the performer! He doesn't know any real dinosaur songs, but he has a few renditions of his own... This is him singing to everyone while we were at Kristi and Derek's in Arizona.

Derek's Graduation from ASU Law School

We all went to Arizona this past weekend for Derek's Law School graduation. What an exciting time. We loved being there surrounded by so much family! Congratulations Derek - what an awesome accomplishment. We enjoyed tons of Bahama Buck's runs (shaved ice), BBQ's, games, good food (mainly Mexican our Favorite) and lots of time to visit!

Spencer and his awesome cousins Caroline and Jackson playing trains. They treat Spencer like a king. He always talks about his cousins that love him so much and are super nice to him. Thanks for being such wonderful friends to Spencer!
